The East Coast National Scenic Area, known as “Taiwan’s last unspoiled land”, stretches 170 kilometers down the east coast of the island. Weathering, erosion and accumulation have produced a wide range of landforms here. Our tour will stop at Xiaoyeliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping , marble factory and showroom. Serious cyclists or even moderately serious cyclists will find Taitung a perfect place for cycling. The Taiwanese cyclist already know this and you will find no shortage of them. For anything longer than a casual ride around the city you will need to bring your own 台東 伴手 bike which is fairly easy thanks to the train. The coastal highway heading north to Hualien is quite popular and has many places for camping and many homestays along the way. For a more strenuous ride Hwy 197 heading north to Luye and Guangshan is a rewarding ride.

Chishang’s romantic scenery with blue skies and vast green fields in the embrace of the East Rift Valley attract tourists who flock to the town on weekdays and summer holidays. The city’s biggest green space,Taitung Forest Park, is situated right at the edge of town. I’ve been looking forward to visiting Taitung since coming back from Hualien in February because the east coast just really grabbed my heart. As Taitung has an abundance of open green spaces, there are better spots to relax at. Looking at the other reviews I guess that it depends very much when you come there and which artists are performing. The cafe has an outdoor ocean view area as well as an indoor dining space. When the weather is nice, opt to sit outdoors, enjoy your meal and drink while watching the rolling waves on the sand, and feel the wind in your hair for a relaxing time. The Fushan Fisheries Resources Conservation Area is right in front of the cafe. The trail goes straight towards the beach where guests can take a stroll, dip their toes in the water, and observe crabs and fish in the intertidal zone.
Hotel Royal Chihpen (see on Booking / Agoda / TripAdvisor) offers a more luxurious experience. Walk up and down the coast in either direction to enjoy the best views of the bridge. There is a cluster of shops and tourist amenities in the parking lot. You can get here from Taitung City on one of the buses that ply the coast, such as 8101, but the ride will take just over 2 hours .
After 1.5-hour of mountain activities, bathing in the milky spring water surrounded by the brown and jade green rock walls must feel so heavenly. Suncake is a flaky pastry with a sweet maltose filling but lately, bakeries have been getting quite creative with their fillings, and you can now find a wide variety of flavors. There are dozens of bakeries throughout the city, but perhaps the most famous is Chia Wia Sina. Expect to see long queues at the front door though as this place is incredibly popular.
