Jack Dorsey introduced the idea of creating an SMS that would allow a user to communicate with a small group of people. Rome wasn’t built in a day – much like the world-famous companies that we all recognize today. Even they had to start from something – and you might be surprised when you find out that quite a few of them started out by doing things completely different than they are  doing now. Immediately, we heard the endemic Malaita White-eye and a few seconds later spotted the first one, which flew into a tree directly above us and sang a surprisingly musical song.
There are several activities to do there such as trekking and biking, and you can also do paragliding or arrange for a hot air balloon ride . The views are phenomenal and offer stunning scenery, this part of Taiwan definitively is the most beautiful one. Going on a hot air balloon ride over the area is one of the best 台東最強伴手禮 things to in Taitung. Probably the most famous park in Taitung, Taitung Forest Park is a nice place to go for a stroll and a top tourist spot. Facing the sea and a river, it is more of a man-made park than a wild forest. It’s better to have a bicycle to go around the park than to walk, unless you have a lot of time.

Tung Ting is a mountain in Lugu, Nantou County, where the tea is cultivated and is also one of the earliest tea-growing areas in Taiwan. This semi-fermented tea is made from soft-stemmed (or “green-hearted”) oolong tea plant, and has a typical semi-spherical shape. The fermentation and roasting time is generally longer to create a deeper flavour with strong aftertaste. As for Taiwan, it became a part of Japan as China lost the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895. After Chinese Civil War during the 1940s,  the losing Republic of China fled to Taiwan and has ruled the island nation since then. This string of events not only led to political disagreement, it also means the two regions went on separate ways to develop their own customs and preferences in culture and food.
In the summer months, Luye is the stage of the world acclaimed Taiwan International Hot Air Balloon Festival, the second largest hot air balloon festival in Asia. Luye Highlands is the heart of the festival with its rolling green plains that offer panoramic views of the central mountain range. During the festival season, hot air balloons and experts congregate in Luye Highlands and colourful balloons soar daily in the early morning and late afternoon. It has become one of the major tourist destinations in Taitung, famous for hot springs and beautiful forests.
It occupies an abandoned sugar mill that’s been taken over and converted into a rehearsal space by a local drumming troupe called the Ten Drum Art Percussion Group. They stage regular percussion shows here and allow visitors to see the production process of drums. On a quick side note, I’ve read a few blog posts that seem to point to a Tainan renaissance. Hipsters are modernizing pockets of the city and this creative park seems to be an example of that. It was our first trip here so I wanted to focus on the traditional, but this hipster side of Tainan is something we’ll definitely be exploring on our next trip to the city.

They can be steeped multiple times, and each steeping produces different flavors. Taiwan’s oolong teas are prized by tea connoisseurs around the world and can fetch astronomical prices. This is why you may find that tea from Taiwan is quite expensive by international standards, and export is mainly limited to small artisanal distributors like Eco-Cha. High mountain tea farming is known to be bad for the environment, as it leads to deforestation and soil erosion, so the government is even dismantling some of its high mountain tea farms. What’s more, demand for Taiwanese teas far exceeds production, which has even led to the phenomenon of “counterfeit” Taiwanese teas, which are typically grown in Southeast Asia.
Taiwan has one of the world's lowest fertility rate and high housing prices. Labor shortages, falling domestic demand, and declining tax revenues are concerns as Taiwan's population decline is faster than other advanced economies. Taiwan's economy remains export-oriented; thus, it depends on an open world trade regime and remains vulnerable to downturns in the world economy. The total value of trade increased over fivefold in the 1960s, nearly tenfold in the 1970s, and doubled again in the 1980s.

The Alishan region was the first testing ground, and even today, Alishan High Mountain Tea remains the most famous. If you’d like a fully customized tea tour of Taiwan, I recommend Life of Taiwan. The iPad held 40% of the tablet market in the first quarter of 2013, but only 32.5% in the first quarter of this year, according to market research firm IDC. IDC analyst reported that iPad lost some of its market share because consumers are holding onto their tablets for longer rather than immediately purchasing the newest version. Apple sold 16.4 million units in the second quarter alone, and more than 211 million since the iPad was first introduced in 2010.
There’s also a ginormous outlet mall, and you can spend the night at E-Da Skylark Hotel (see on Booking / Agoda / Klook / Tripadvisor) or E-Da Royal (see on Booking / Agoda / Tripadvisor). For something really special, spend the night in one of the monster-themed rooms at Monster Village Hotel (see on Booking / Agoda / Tripadvisor). Quirky Xitou Monster Village in Nantou is a peculiar, off-the-beaten-track attraction in Taiwan. This Japanese monster-themed village has an interesting and touching story behind it; read all about it my detailed guide to Monster Village. The second is that the park has one of the best displays of cherry blossoms in the country, usually taking place in February to early March.

Taichung (台中 or Taizhong, literally “Taiwan’s middle”) is the largest city of Taiwan. It is the birthplace of pearl milk tea and is particularly known for its artistic tendencies, flower viewing, night markets,  café culture, and several large universities. The night market is located south of Lotus Pond, but a little far to walk – cycling is ideal. From the city center, you can get there from Kaohsiung Arena MRT station of the red line. A handful of districts make up what is considered the city center core.

If you have some time to kill at the Taitung train station, Beinan Archaeological Site (卑南遺址) is pretty much the only Taitung attraction that is within easy walking distance from the train station.
