With the shared goal of promoting cultural exchange and artistic innovation, BDC and the Taitung County Government have forged a powerful partnership that has made a lasting impact on the world of dance. Later, he embarked on an international journey, working with prestigious companies such as the Martha Graham Dance Company and the Göteborg Opera Ballet. However, Bulareyaung's heart eventually led him back to his roots in Taitung County in 2014, where he established BDC as a means to preserve and promote indigenous culture. Kaishen Sinsu Hotel provides comfortable 3.5-star accommodation in Taitung City. It also offers an express check-in and check-out feature, a 24-hour reception and luggage storage.
There’s no specific opening and closing time, but since Huang wakes so early, I’m sure you could show up anytime in the daylight hours, but you wouldn’t be able to appreciate the artwork after dark. Rainbow “village” 台東伴手禮專賣店 is no more than a few homes, with about half a dozen small interconnected buildings. You could easily see the whole thing in minutes, but with photos and having a snack or drink, you’ll probably spend an hour there.
It was sightings of the east that led the Portuguese to call Taiwan Ilha Formosa, meaning 'Beautiful Isle'. Steep ridges of thickly forested mountains rise from the Pacific in wave after wave, often leaving only a narrow strip of oceanside land. Mountains, still being created by the pyrotechnics of plate tectonics, edge both sides of the valley, where geological activity also results in several hot springs. Overall, Jiuzhuang makes for a pleasant 2-3 hour trip from the city and offers a good introduction to Taiwan’s tea culture.
The County Government thought such a precious stretch of beach should be available for everyone to enjoy. Therefore, the resort remains empty as the County Government decides how it can serve the public in the future. The first concert will take place in Shanyuan Bay of Beinan Township on September 4.
By scooter, it’s going to take you a solid 4.5-6 hours to get from Taitung to Kenting on this route, while route #1 should only take about three hours in total. (太麻里) is an insanely long stretch of beach that usually has few to no people on it. A small detour off just before the point where highways 9 and 11 meet will bring you to Zhiben Hot Spring and National Forest Recreation Area. Highway 11 end when it rejoins with Highway 9 just south of Taitung City. We spent about 6 hours scootering this route from Hualien to Guanshan in Taitung, with few stops, to give you a general idea.
Xinkang Fishing Harbour is known as the Heart of Chenggong Township. In 1922, Sugamiya Katsutaro, Xinkang’s Deputy Director, proposed to build a harbor. By 1932 the construction of the harbor and his residence were complete. He used the minka has his own private quarters and built Gao An Hospital adjacent to it.
Near the entrance to lover's cave is a tunnel that goes through the mountain. I first thought it could have been an ROC air raid shelter, but acutally was an early road connecting the villages. Many passerby's think that it is "Lover's Cave," so it has been also named "Fake Lover's Cave." When the ROC first occupied Taiwan they also sent soldiers to Lanyu. The soldiers were sometimes rude and bullied the locals who could not speak Mandarin and still practiced their native culture.
Hailed as Taiwan's most beautiful train station, Duoliang Station overlooks the graceful Pacific Ocean. Railway fans gather up from around the world for this sanctuary, and web celebrities and bloggers come here to check in. This would be the nicest beach in Lanyu if it weren't for the pile of garbage on the lower left.
You can read my more detailed guide to Chishang and Mr. Brown Avenue here. The final stop you’ll make along highway 9 before crossing the border into Taitung County is the Tropic of Cancer Marker Park, where you can make a quick stop for mandatory photo ops. If you don’t have your own wheels, you can hire a chartered car from Hualien to Sixty Stone Mountain or take this tour from Taitung City.
The two small islands directly evoke the artistic language of everyone with their most unique customs. Looking at the other reviews I guess that it depends very much when you come there and which artists are performing. I was there on a Friday evening and I liked it, because there was some very beautiful guitar music and a funny clown-like person entertaining the kids.
Maokong offers Taipei folk the chance to get up into the tea fields via glass-bottom gondola directly from the Taipei Zoo MRT station, and offers dozens of traditional teashops to choose from. You can get here by taking the bus towards Pinglin, getting off at the nearest stop, then hiking down to find the trail. For absolutely stunning panoramic views over the Feicui Reservoir (翡翠水庫), one of two main reservoirs that provides water to greater Taipei, get yourself to this fantastic little spot. The reservoir is also called Qian Dao Hu or “Thousand Island Lake” (千島湖), named after a lake with similar scenery in Zhejiang province, China. Terraced tea fields are highly photogenic places, and there are many places in Taiwan, even as easy day trips from Taipei, where you can get up close to admire their simple beauty. Taiwan is also home to several interesting and informative tea centers and museums.
The company has performed at various events and venues, including the National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei, the 2018 Taipei Lantern Festival, and the 2019 World Stage Design Exhibition in Kyoto, Japan. These captivating performances have garnered critical acclaim, with the New York Times hailing the troupe as "a company with vision and skill". Getting around is quite easy, and will involve some combination oftrains, buses, andwalking. Maps are widely available in English for travelers, and signposts clearly mark every trail and direction.
Mr. Brown Avenue, or Brown Boulevard (池上伯朗大道) is the most famous of them all, and people come from all over the country to cycle there, mainly because a famous EVA airlines commercial was filmed there. Yuli, as well as the next three towns in Taitung County are great options for breaking up your journey from Hualien to Kenting and spending the night. If I could only choose one on a short trip to Taiwan, I’d probably go for Chishang, but all describe all four towns below. Some of the best white rafting in Taiwan can be had at Hsiukuluan River (秀姑巒溪) near Ruisui. This rafting tour offers pickup from either Hualien City or Ruisui. Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area (富源國家森林遊樂區), in neighborhing Wanrong Township, is famous for its swarms of butterflies, which can be seen here in spring in summer.
A famous and long-time traditional rice noodle store in Taitung, “A-Mi Rice Noodles,” is located on Fujian Rd. in Taitung City. The shop is close to the Siwei Night Market and plays a part in many locals’ childhood memories. I’m from the US visiting Taipei and was shopping some tea to bring back home. Per your suggestions, went to the Expo Fatmer’s Market and the Lin Mao Sen Tea Co, a great experience for both. The Lin Mao Sen Tea shop was very helpful in getting the tea for my flavor preference.; though, it’s disappointedly that they only allowed you to try one tea in the shop. They’re ok to send tea overseas, so a good thing to refill my Oolong later on.
