Often, well-known indigenous bands will be invited to play a concert and then the party really begins. Tiehua Music Village in Taitung town is a good place to catch indigenous bands throughout the year. If you’re attending any music or arts festival in Taitung, you’ll be able to taste some of the best local food and drinks. As you wander through the village, you’ll also notice the historical significance of this former train station.
There’s also a small lunchbox museum inside on the second floor, but it was closed when we visited during COVID in Taiwan. Besides bicycle paths through rice paddies, Chishang is famous for the rice itself. Because the water in the area is so pure, the rice from Chishang and other nearby towns like Guanshan is said to be the best in all of Taiwan. So what did the famous Taiwanese pop star do to get a tree in Chishang named after her?
Taitung Night Market is a small but diverse marketplace where visitors can find various snacks such as rice cakes, noodle soup, and cream puffs. The highlight of the market is the steak, omelette, and smelly tofu stall in the middle. Custard apple is a local favorite that tastes incredibly sweet and comes at an affordable price.

It’s also a good idea to bring a water bottle and snacks to keep you energized throughout the adventure. The cycling route is well-paved and relatively flat, making it suitable for all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, the East Coast Scenic Area is an adventure you won’t want to miss.
Aside from hitting the waves, be sure to check out the local surf culture. You can catch a screening of a surf movie at one of the many cafes or bars, or attend one of the annual surf festivals that take place in the area. With its stunning scenery, warm waters, and world-class surfers, it’s no wonder that Taitung has become one of the top surf destinations in Asia. So grab your board and catch some waves – you never know what kind of exciting ride you’ll have in Taitung.
It’s a liquor famous to Taiwan’s Kinmen, but you can find the Hundred Dragon and 38% alcohol by volume in most convenience stores, supermarkets, and liquor stores. Visit Tax Refund counters or computers at any shopping center . Must make purchases of at least NT$2,000 at each store to qualify for the VAT refund. Twelve unique themes representing Taitung were selected in the calendar, including swordfish skills, hand-fried sea salt technique, deep-fried cold singles, and bird aconitum, etc. The twelve themes included Taitung’s unique cultural skills, humanistic feelings, and natural ecology.

Original Tribe Mountain Cuisine (原始部落山地美食) This is an aboriginal restaurant and hangout spot west of the city and National Museum of Prehistory. It’s got artsy, aboriginal vibes, good food, excellent views looking down on the city at night, and occasional musical performances. National Museum of Prehistory (國立臺灣史前文化博物館) This recently renovated and reopened museum is Taitung’s largest. It covers Taiwan’s early history, including wildlife and aboriginal peoples, with lots of interactive displays. The only downside is that it is quite a ways out of the city center, past the Taitung Airport.
The majority of travelers who visit Taiwan never make it past Taipei. It’s a shame because as much fun as Taipei is, there are many cool places to visit around Taiwan’s capital city.
